k`■ KLEINFELDER
4 ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED
Three monitoring wells were installed on May 20, 2002. The monitoring wells were designated
MW -1, MW -2, and MW -3. On May 23, 2002 the newly installed monitoring wells were
developed. Kleinfelder re -visited the site on May 28, 2002 to conduct the initial sampling event.
An elevation survey of the three monitoring wells was conducted on June 5, 2002.
4.1 PERMITTING AND PRE -FIELD ACTIVITIES
Kleinfelder's "Proposal, Additional Soil and Groundwater Investigation, Tradeway Chevrolet..."
dated April 29, 2002 was submitted to the San Joaquin County, Public Health Services
Department Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) for review. The monitoring well
application approval was obtained prior to initiating fieldwork. The boring locations were
marked in white paint and Underground Service Alert (USA) was notified at least 48 hours prior
to drilling activities. For a copy of the well permits, please refer to Appendix A.
4.2 MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
The soil borings were advanced using a truck -mounted drill rig equipped with 8 -inch diameter
hollow stem auger. Soil samples were collected at 5 -foot intervals beginning at 5 feet for logging
purposes and potential chemical analysis.
The borings were drilled, logged, and sampled according to the protocol described in Appendix B.
A two-inch monitoring well was constructed in each of the three soil borings, as described in
Appendix B, Section B-3.1. Monitoring wells MW -1, MW -2, and MW -3 were screened from
approximately 15 to 30 feet bgs. The wells were screened using Schedule 40 PVC pipe with 0.010 -
inch factory cut slots. The 0.010 screen size was chosen due to the soil encountered at that depth.
See Plate 4 for a typical monitoring well construction diagram. A copy of the boring logs is
presented in Appendix C.
Soil samples were collected from each of the three soil borings. Laboratory analysis was
conducted on a total of six (6) soil samples (2 from each soil boring). The soil samples submitted
for analysis were collected at 10 feet bgs and 15 feet bgs.
Soil cuttings generated while drilling and decontamination water were placed in 55 -gallon drums,
labeled, and left on site pending chemical analysis and disposal by the client.
20-3978-03.CHEV / ST02RI I I Page 7 of 18
Copyright 2002, Kleinfelder, Inc.
