Advanced
GeoEnvironmental Inc.
N
`1 r-
19 September 2002 rn
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0557 w
Mr. Michael R. Whelan r3 r+-
UNION SAFE DEPOSIT BANK
317 E. Main Street
Stockton, California, 95202
Subject: Site Evaluation, Report Review and Ground Water Sampling
TRADEWAY CHEVROLET
1460 East Yosemite Avenue, California
Dear Mr. Whelan:
At your request, Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (AGE) researched the Tradeway Chevrolet
property and surrounding properties with respect to the property history and use. and the potential
of surrounding properties to affect ground water beneath the property. AGE also reviewed the report
Monitoring Well Installation, Ground Water Sampling and Analysis - Tradeway Chevrolet, dated
01 July 2002, prepared by Kleinfelder, Inc. and performed a sampling and analysis program to verify
and augment the results and recommendations presented in the Kleinfelder report.
Kleinfelder noted in the July report that they advanced three soil borings on 20 May 2002, collected
soil samples at 10 feet and 15 feet below surface grade (bsg) and analyzed for TPH-g (gasoline),
benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes (BTEX), fuel oxygenates (MTBE, TAME, DIPE and
ETBE), methanol and Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons (fuel fingerprint). Kleinfelder
reported that there were no detected concentrations found in soil for the listed analytes.
Kleinfelder noted in the July report that they completed the borings as monitoring wells and collected
water samples on 28 May 2002, analyzing for TPH-g, BTEX, fuel oxygenates, methanol and fuel
fingerprint. Kleinfelder reported that of all the analytes with established water quality goals (WQGs),
only benzene exceeded the WQGs in one ground water sample (MW -2) with a concentration of 1.5
µg/1; the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for benzene was 1.0 µg/1. Toluene, ethylbenzene and
xylene were also found in MW -2, but at levels below the WQGs.
Methanol was detected in MW -1 with a concentration of 110 µg/1; Kleinfelder stated that there was
no MCL for methanol, but there was a taste and odor threshold WQG of 740,000 4g/1. MW -1 was
located down -gradient to the hydraulic lifts and MW -2 was located upgradient to the hydraulic lifts.
Kleinfelder recommended that further subsurface investigations be performed upgradient or east of
837 Shaw Road, Stockton, California 95215
Telephone (209) 467-1006 FAX (209) 467-1118
