• k' ■ KLEINFELDER
3.2.3 Former AST Area
An anhydrous ammonia tank and various other fertilizer above ground tanks were formerly
stored near the northern central portion of the site. Kleinfelder proposes to advance hand auger
soil boring in each of the AST impoundments to a total depth of 3 feet bgs. A total of 6 soil
samples (3 from each boring) would be collected for possible laboratory analysis. Soil, samples
would be collected from the surface, 1 foot, and 3 foot depths. At this time we propose to
analyze the 1 foot soil sample from the anhydrous ammonia AST impoundment, and the 1 foot
soil sample from the additional AST impoundment. The remaining soil samples would be put on
hold at the laboratory pending further analysis requirements if applicable.
3.2.4 Former Tank Washout Area
A concrete tank washout pad and sump exists on the site. Kleinfelder proposes to advance one
shallow soil boring near the center of the pad. The pad would initially be cored with a concrete
coring tool and then the soil boring would be advanced with a hand auger. Kleinfelder proposes
to collect three soil samples from within the tank washout area for possible laboratory analysis.
The soil samples would be collected at the surface, 1 foot, and 3 feet bgs. At this time we
propose to analyze the 1 foot soil sample from the washout area. The remaining soil samples
would be put on hold at the laboratory pending further analysis requirements if applicable.
3.2.5 Leach Field
We propose to collect a total of three soil samples from within the residential leach field from
one locations for possible laboratory analysis. The soil samples would be collected at the
surface, 1 foot, and 3 feet bgs. At this time we propose to analyze the 3 foot soil sample. The
remaining soil samples would be put on hold at the laboratory pending further analysis
requirements if applicable.
3.3 DOMESTIC WATER WELL SAMPLING
Kleinfelder will collect a water sample from the domestic water well on site. The water sample
will be collected by drawing a sample from the closest discharge point to the well itself. The
discharge point will be decontaminated with a Liquinox laboratory-grade detergent solution prior
to collection. Sufficient water will be allowed to be purged from the discharge point prior to
collection. Because the well is an active domestic water supply, the water purged from the well
will not be contained and allowed to flow to the ground surface.
3.4 GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATION
Kleinfelder will investigate the possibility of an existing underground storage tank on the site by
implementing a magnetic geophysical survey of the suspect area. Based upon the results of the
survey and the confirmation of presence or absence of the UST, follow up discussions of further
additional work will be addressed.
27125.E01 /ST03R657 Page 8 of 15
Copyright 2003,Kleinfelder,Inc.
