6.0
6.1
6.2
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
The employment of the aforementioned engineering controls is the preferred
method of providing personal protection from hazards identified at this and any
site. PPE provides acceptable secondary recourse, but only when engineering
controls fail or cannot adequately eliminate exposure to the hazard. The use of
PPE is intended to provide protection for on-site personnel from chemical,
physical, and operational hazards that cannot be controlled through other safety
procedures. Considering the reported present of lead in soil and concrete at the
site, the PPE required for each worker during this project will include.
® Hard Hat ® Safety Glasses
® Leather Boots ® Disposable inner gloves
® Chem. Resistant Boots ® Chem. Resistant gloves
® Leather Gloves ® Aur -Purifying Respirator - Contingency
® Ear Plugs ® APR Cartridges (Org Vapor/ Particulate) -
Contingency
® Reflective Vest ❑ Tyvek coveralls
❑ Other (Specify: )
It is assumed all PPE will be NIOSH/ANSI approved, as appropriate. The use
applications for this equipment are summarized in the following matrix.
Specific procedures are further described below.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
Respiratory protection will not be required during the field activities unless:
dust/vapor suppression is not performed; the referenced (organic vapor)
action levels are exceeded, and/or; this HSP is modified by the SSO or
consulting health and safety professional.
In the event that respiratory protecti
on is deemed warranted, NIOSH -certified
half -face air purifying respirators with organic vapor/particulate cartridges will
likely be recommended. Decisions pertaining to an upgrade of respiratory
protection will in part be based on air monitoring for confined space entry with
decisions made in collaboration with the Consulting health and safety
professional.
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING
The protective equipment to be donned by personnel performing the scope of
work in all areas of the project is listed as follows:
COS'I'ERA WASTE &ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.
