Tree and Shrub Plantings (Riparian and Upland). The tree and shrub plantings are <br /> primarily for screening purposes;therefore,there are no-net-loss objectives. Native tree and <br /> shrub plantings will improve wildlife habitat and aesthebasedic values. Therefore,on maintenance of the rrformance <br /> screening <br /> criteria for the tree and shrub plantings shall beased <br /> function. <br /> Each tree and shrub shall be evaluated annually for general health. For the measure <br /> to be considered successful, at least 50 percent of the plantings should be considered healthy <br /> and capable of growing without irrigation within 5 years. The drip-irrigation system will be <br /> checked for malfunctions and necessary adjustments shall be recommended. After 2 years, <br /> the biological monitor shall make a recommendation as to whether the irrigation system <br /> should be removed. <br /> Hydrologic Monitoring <br /> Wetland hydrology shall be monitored when the grading for the vernal pools,wetland <br /> swales, and marshes have been completed and there has been sufficient precipitation to fill <br /> the existing wetlands onsite. Water depths shall be measured twice each wet season in all <br /> created, protected, and selected unprotected vernal pools, swales, and marshes after the <br /> wetland hydrology has been determined. The depth measurements shall be taken from <br /> those sites selected for vegetation monitoring as identified above. The approximate duration <br /> of ponding and soil saturation shall be recorded for the same sites. Water depths and <br /> undisturbed wetlands <br /> periods of saturation in the created wetlands shall be compared <br /> to determine if hydrology in the created wetlands is similar to that of the undisturbed <br /> wetlands. <br /> Monitoring Schedule <br /> The monitoring schedule is designed to assist the biological monitor in implementing <br /> the monitoring program. The schedule is divided into tasks that address specific goals of <br /> the program, including collecting baseline data to establish performance criteria, monitoring <br /> wetland creation and revegetation efforts, and preparing the annual monitoring report. A <br /> suggested time frame for accomplishing the monitoring tasks is shown in Table 10. <br /> Reporting Results <br /> The results of the monitoring program shall be summarized in annual reports for a <br /> period of 5 years. Each annual report shall describe and interpret the results of the <br /> previous year's monitoring;include representative photographs of each sample site; evaluate <br /> the success to date of mitigation measures relative to mitigation performance standards; <br /> 56 <br />
