05 February 2018
AGE Project No. 18-4300
3.1. SOIL BORING ADVANCEMENT
A total of two (2) soil borings will be advanced using a truck-mounted probe or van-
mounted Geoprobe® 5400 equipped with 1.25-inch probing rods. The probe rig will
advance soil borings using a hydraulic hammer to drive sampling tools to specified
depths.
3.1.1. Soil Sampling
Beginning at 5 feet bsg, soil samples will be collected from the two probe borings at 5-
foot intervals using a 1.45-inch diameter Geoprobe soil sampling assembly preloaded
with one two-foot long acetate sleeve. After sample collection, a portion of the acetate
sleeve will be separated, and the ends preserved by covering with Teflon sheets, rubber
end caps and sealing with duct tape.
Soil samples will be visually classified by an AGE geologist in accordance with the
Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Additionally, soil samples will be field
screened for the presence of volatile organic compounds using an organic vapor meter
(OVM), equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID). Soil sample descriptions and
OVM readings will be recorded on a log for each boring.
Following sample collection, each preserved sample sleeve will be labeled with the
boring location, depth, time, date, and sampler's initials. Appropriately sealed and
labeled samples will be placed in a chilled container and transported under chain of
custody to a CDPH-certified laboratory for analysis for the constituents listed in Section
2.3.
3.1.2. Boring Abandonment
All soil borings will be permanently sealed to prevent vertical migration of potential
contaminants. The soil boring will be abandoned by backfilling with Portland type ll
cement grout from the total depth to surface grade utilizing tremie procedures. The top
three to six inches of the boring abandonments will be completed flush to surface grade
with concrete. The EHD will be notified for grout inspection at least 72 hours prior to
conducting grouting procedures.
3.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION/WASTE MANAGEMENT
All sampling tools used for sample collection, except for disposable bailers, will be
thoroughly rinsed with clean water after being washed with a solution of Alconox.
