21 June 2018
AGE Project No. 11-1847
AdvancedGeo
Environmental -ogg.
A four-inch diameter SVE well (VW-2), screened between 10 and 25 feet bsg, will
be located between former USTs 1 and 2, approximately 20 to 25 feet east-
southeast of monitoring well MW-6.
A four-inch diameter SVE well (VW-3), screened between 10 and 25 feet bsg, will
be approximately 40 to 50 feet southeast of monitoring well MW-6.
A two-inch diameter IAS well (IAS-1), screened between 30 and 35 feet bsg, will
be located intermediate between the proposed SVE-1 and SVE-2 well locations,
and approximately 10 to 20 feet east of monitoring well MW-6.
A two-inch diameter IAS well (IAS-2), screened between 30 and 35 feet bsg, will
be located intermediate between the proposed SVE-2 and SVE-3 well locations,
and approximately 30 to 40 feet southeast of monitoring well MW-6.
The proposed SVE well locations are depicted in Figure 2. The proposed SVE and IAS
screen intervals are located in areas of known soil and groundwater gasoline-impact.
Procedures for well installation are presented in Section 3.2.
Initially, soil borings/SVE wells VW-1, VW-2 and VW-3 will be advanced to depths of 25
feet bsg and soil borings/IAS wells IAS-1 and IAS-2 to depths of 35 feet bsg, however,
total depths of each borings and/or screen intervals may be adjusted in the field and will
be based on field observations and field screening using an organic vapor monitor (OVM).
Total depths of borings may vary according to geologic conditions encountered during
drilling. The proposed SVE/IAS wells will be advanced utilizing a truck-mounted, hollow
stem drill rig equipped with both 8-inch and 10-inch diameter hollow-stem augers.
2.3. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION AND INSITU AIR SPARGE PILOT TEST
An 8-hour SVE and IAS combined pilot test will be conducted at the site. The proposed
eight-hour SVE pilot test is designed to evaluate feasibility of SVE as a remediation
method at the site. The results of the SVE pilot test would provide an effective SVE radius
of influence for design of a SVE remediation system. The proposed IAS pilot test is
designed to evaluate feasibility of volatilizing dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons (air
sparging) as a remediation method at the site. The results of the IAS pilot test will provide
a general air sparging radius of influence for design of an in-situ air sparge system.
The SVE portion of the pilot test will be performed to provide induced vapor extraction
data from the proposed SVE well screens (VW-1, VW-2 and VW-3). The IAS portion of
the pilot test will be performed to provide air sparge data (i.e. pressure and dissolved
oxygen) from IAS well screens (IAS-1 and IAS-2). Additionally, current monitoring wells
MW-4, MW-5 and MW-6 will be utilized to evaluate IAS during the pilot test. The SVE/IAS
pilot test specifications are presented in Section 3.5.
