Check container areas for signs of leakage or damage to drums and containers. <br />6. Checked affected buildings and fencing directly related to hazardous waste management <br />activities for damage. <br />7. Conduct a general survey of the site looking for signs and land movement, etc. <br />8. Take all necessary corrective measures, however temporary, to rectify or real problems <br />9. Record inspection results <br />Earthquakes <br />The ERT will respond to the earthquake. All employees should follow the procedures outlined in the EAP <br />for Sierra Chemical, Co. in the event of an earthquake. In regards to hazardous materials, substances, <br />and/or processes, the ERT will carry out the following items: <br />• Establish a command post outside the damaged area(s) and initiate communications with the <br />ERT. <br />o Help injured or trapped persons first <br />o Follow the chemical response/spill release guidelines for any uncontrolled releases of hazardous <br />materials as outlined in the previous section "control procedures: spills" <br />• Inspect entire length of vent stacks for damage <br />• Inspect utilities <br />• Propane tank leak. If hissing or blowing noise is heard, open the doors quickly and leave the <br />building. The gas tank shall be turned off and the gas supplier emergency number shall be called <br />from a safe location. <br />• Look for electrical damage. If sparks or broken/frayed wiring is observed or if hot insulation is <br />noted, turn off electricity at the main circuit breaker. Do not do so if you must step in water to <br />turn off the circuit breaker. <br />Check for sewage and water line damage <br />Flooding <br />The following actions will be taken upon notice of an imminent flood for each particular area: <br />Chlorine Room <br />All of the filled chlorine 150 -pound refill containers are stored within the repack building while the ton <br />contains are stored in the truck yard. In the event of a flood, production will cease and the building will <br />be secured. When available, ton containers will be put on flatbeds, chained and secured. 150 Cylinders <br />will be put on racks and when available, put on flatbeds and secured. When flatbeds are not available or <br />time does not allow for movement, containers will be nested, chained, and secured to reduce risk. This <br />will eliminate the potential of full containers from leaving the facility. <br />Warehouse <br />All of the dry bagged materials and hazardous waste is stored in the warehouse. All dry products will be <br />loaded into the box vans or flatbeds so that they are not moved by any free standing water if possible <br />before the onset of a flooding event. Filled drums may be stored in the floor area.
