EMCON
detected some Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) in three
lysimeters. The County hired an independent third party
(KZeinfelder Inc.) to confirm EMCON's findings, and they found
similar results.
The County hired a contractor to run a camera through the
leachate collection pipes to determine if they were clogged. The
pipes were found to contain some leachate. As a result, the
County is in the process of hiring a contractor to flush the
leachate collection lines.
Once the lines are cleared, the County will continuously pump
leachate to prevent the buildup of head over the liner. The sump
will be continuously monitored and pumped dry as needed. The
leachate will be processed according to our approved leachate
management plan. The County will also continue to monitor the
lysimeters in accordance with Waste Discharge Requirements. If
you have any questions regarding this information, please call me
at (209) 468-3066.
Sincerely,
GABRIEL KARAM, P.E.
Senior Solid Waste Engineer
GK:WJ:vj
R:JVIRGINIAJLETTERSJCONFRMVZ.AI
c: Ed Padilla, Environmental Health Division
LA 63372
