Complaint Investigation Summary Report*5105
COMPLAINT ID: COPDWZCWF Site Location: 9000 W VERNALIS ROAD
Activity Summary
Activity Date Recorded by
08/03/2021 Dina Calanchini sent me the following email on July 9, 2021: BACKUS
I discussed this facility with DTSC since there's not likely an impact to
groundwater, but more of a human health and/or ecological risk issue. DTSC
instructed me to file a complaint through their system and they'd look into it. I
guess they didn't since they referred it back to you.
My concerns are permitting a facility that is discharging mercury impacted water
where the concentrations can vary based on the timing of sampling after a release
occurs. It seems odd to permit a facility that's continuing to break bulbs. There's
an issue with their system and to issue them a permit that allows the discharge to
continue concerns me.
We have an internal meeting today to again discuss this issue.
For now I don't think we need to have a discussion, but we'll see how the meeting
goes today.
Thank you,
Dina
Dina Calanchini
Engineering Geologist
Waste Discharge to Land Permitting Unit
Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
11020 Sun Center Drive, Suite 200
Rancho Cordova, CA 95670
08/03/2021 Abated complaint.
