POLICY/PROCEDURE: SM 2.0.00 <br /> DATE REVIEWED/REVISED: 04/07/19 <br /> DATE EFFECTIVE: 10/01/95 <br /> APPROVED: <br /> TOPIC: EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN <br /> PURPOSE: To provide continuing care and support to patients in the event of an emergency that would result in an <br /> interruption of services. <br /> OBJECTIVES: <br /> 1.0 To provide continuing care and support appropriate to the care or services provided to patients in the event of an <br /> emergency that would result in an interruption of patient care at home. <br /> 2.0 To assure that patients who are receiving life-saving medications or treatments have alternative arrangements for <br /> receiving their therapies in the event of an emergency. <br /> 3.0 To assure the safety of staff during an emergency. <br /> 4.0 To define an emergent actively or event that might precipitate the activation of an emergency preparedness plan. <br /> POLICY: <br /> 1.0 Western Drug Medical Supply will have an established Emergency Preparedness Plan outlining specific steps to be <br /> taken by the Agency's personnel in case of emergency situations. <br /> 2.0 It is the responsibility of management to develop and implement a plan that would continue to provide services to <br /> patients in the event of an emergency. <br /> 3.0 The Emergency Preparedness Plan is to be reviewed and/or revised at least annually. <br /> 4.0 On an annual basis,a review is conducted to assess Western Drug Medical Supply's scope of service,geographical <br /> service area and definition of life-threatening services.Staff will be in-serviced on all changes. <br /> 5.0 An emergency can be categorized as External or Internal. <br /> 5.01 An external emergency is one that involves the community or a patient. <br /> 5.01.02 These may be floods,airplane disasters,mud slides,earthquakes,loss of patient's utilities, <br /> equipment failures,fires in patient's home and patient medical emergencies. <br /> 5.02 Internal emer encies are those that involve the physical environment or employees of Western Drug Medical <br /> Supply. <br /> 5.02.01 These may be fires at the warehouse,hazardous spills,employee medical emergencies,loss of <br /> utilities,staffing shortages,labor disputes involving vendors or suppliers.These are not inclusive to <br /> all the possibilities that may constitute an emergency. <br /> 5.02.02 A general rule that all employees must follow is that if there is any extreme event that prohibits the <br /> ability to provide continuing service to the patient it is to be deemed an emergency and shall be <br /> treated as such by management and employees. <br /> CATEGORIZATION OF PATIENT ACUITY: <br /> PURPOSE: <br /> To Provide a system of identifying high-risk patients in the event of a disaster/emergency. <br />
