8.0 IDENTIFIED CONTAMINATION SOURCES
The following sources of past, current, on-site, and off-site contamination have
been identified as a result of this investigation:
1
2
0
El
5
Identified Contamination Source Evaluation
The Site has been used for
agriculture since 1937 or earlier,
and orchard since 1975 or earlier.
A variety of agricultural chemicals
have been applied to the Site
during the past five years,
according to the San Joaquin
County Agricultural Commissioner
office. Three violations from 2019
were identified. (Current and past
on-site)
Two domestic wells and two septic
systems are located on the Site.
(Current on-site)
One dry hole gas well was
identified on the subject Site. The
well was drilled and abandoned in
1961. The Site is located within the
Vernalis gas field, and three
additional gas wells were identified
within one-quarter mile. (Past on -
and off-site)
Two hazardous materials facilities
were identified within one-quarter
mile of the Site. (Current and past
off-site)
An active hazardous liquid pipeline
is located along Highway 33
approximately one-quarter mile
northeast of the Site. (Current off-
site)
As with any agricultural property,
agricultural chemical residues may
be present in Site soils from
previous applications. The typical
standard of care for SSCRs does
not require further investigation of
agricultural use. The violations
were corrected during the inspection
and required no further action.
The wells and septic systems are
currently in use.
Gas well development can generate
brine and hazardous materials. The
well on the Site and those on the
surrounding properties were drilled
and abandoned under the oversight
of DOGGR. Environmental risks are
present with any well drilling or
drilling fluid disposal. However, no
evidence was encountered to
indicate specific contamination
affecting the Site as a result of past
gas well operations.
Based on records reviewed for the
two facilities, no evidence of impacts
to the subject Site was identified.
Based on the distance to the subject
Site, the pipeline is not anticipated
to have impacted the Site.
LOGE 2140 8
