• Dry hole Balken Corp. "Balken-Young Unit 2" 3 (API 07700252). This well
was drilled and abandoned in 1961. According to information available
from CaIGEM, the well was drilled to a total depth of 5,198 feet. The
casing was cut below ground surface and plugged with ten feet of cement,
and a plate was welded on the top of the casing (Appendix 6).
The following three gas wells were identified within one-quarter mile of the Site:
• Dry hole W.E. Strangman "Pereira" 1 (API 07720052), located east of the
Site. This well was drilled and abandoned in 1968.
• Dry hole Valwood Production Co. "Petz" 2 (API 07720121), located
southwest of the Site. This well was drilled in 1970 and abandoned in
1977.
• Dry hole John M. Young "Petz" 20-46 (API 07700397), located west of the
Site. This well was drilled and abandoned in 1962.
Gas well development can generate brine and hazardous materials. The well on
the Site and those on the surrounding properties were drilled and abandoned
under the oversight of DOGGR. Environmental risks are present with any well
drilling or drilling fluid disposal. However, no evidence was encountered to
indicate specific contamination affecting the Site as a result of past gas well
operations.
7.5 National Pipeline Mapping System Database
Live Oak reviewed the National Pipeline Mapping System (NPMS) Public Viewer
on July 23, 2021 for evidence of hazardous materials pipelines within one-quarter
mile of the Site. An active hazardous liquid pipeline operated by SFPP, LP
containing "Non -HVL Product" (not highly volatile) is located along Highway 33
approximately one-quarter mile northeast of the Site. Local pipelines which are
not mapped by the NPMS may be present in the area as well.
LOGE 2140 7
