Hazelton Ave. Stockton, Calif. 95206 RE; Your letter of November 13, 1978 j After our discussion of this letter it was my understanding that you would look further into the facts, and get back to me. On the well in question some settled clay or clay off the well wall caused your inspectors' line to go less than 50 feet, the depth required. This was cleared to 48 feet by probing the annular space with a string of pipe. Your inspector had to leave early that day for some reason. We still had two well to grout. I asked if the inspector said we could not grout them. One man said no, he hadn't, and the other man said we could not grout the well scheduled in Linden. I then directed the grouting of the well in question. This was all sone late in the day on a Friday by radio. As I was trying to get my drilling rig off a job and back to the shop. At the time it was understood by the one man that it was not okay to grout the Linden well whileh was later inspected and passed. Other irritating factors were the Mitchler Cement Co. being 2 hrs. and 10 mins. later than promised and the first well grouted also having to be probed down. We by no mean were attempting to get away with anything. we have records to show 6 yards of concrete were used in 3 wells which certainly shows that they took the normal amount. We also wasted 3 yards of concrete at $50.00 per yard, Lather than grout a well that could have been grouted if we wanted to grout wells without inspections.
