SOUND & COMMUNICATION
SYSTEMS
Section 16700
15-1207
E. Submit proof that all items of equipment conform to requirements of UL or Factory
Mutual Laboratories. The label or listing of above laboratories shall be accepted as
evidence or conformance.
F. All equipment shall meet the following minimum standards:
1. Each major sound system component (such as amplifiers, oscillators, control
panels, etc.) shall be completely pre -wired to plug-in connectors ready to plug into
matching receptacles in main housing.
2. Tone signal generators, power oscillators, signal amplifiers and audio amplifiers
shall be solid state (no tubes).
3 Speaker housings shall be treated with permanent acoustical control material.
Dampening material shall be installed between speaker mounting board and grille
to prevent metallic resonance.
4. Indoor speaker circuits shall be 25 volt lines with individual speakers matched
thereto by use of line matching transformers having adjustable power taps to
provide 3 steps of volume adjustment at .5 watt, 1 watt and 2 watt.
5. Outdoor speaker circuits shall be 25 volt lines with individual horn speakers
matched thereto by use of line matching transformers having adjustable power
taps to provide 5 steps of volume adjustment at .48 watt, .94 watt, 1.8 watt, 7.5 watt
and 15 watts.
6. Indoor 8" speakers shall have minimum 4.8 oz. Ceramic magnet and minimum 3/4"
voice coil diameter.
7. Enclosures of all equipment shall be of metal throughout system.
8. System shall allow administrative intercom system functions to be accessed
through DTMF telephone instruments.
9. All equipment shall be microprocessor -based of modular design, using plug-in
connections between all modules. Field cabling shall be terminated in a labeled
punch block arrangement to simplify servicing.
10. Administrative control console shall allow DTMF-type telephones to call individual
classroom speakers, zone page, all call page, emergency page and activate other
alarm and time zones.
11. System shall be capable of handling three simultaneous communication paths:
a. Direct dialing, two-way communications between locations equipped with an
ACC or DTMF telephone and any room station equipped with a speaker or
telephone handset.
b. A second intercom channel between ACCs when multiple ACCs are used in
the system.
C. Simultaneous program distribution directed from any ACC without
interrupting intercom channels.
H. The Contractor shall be the authorized distributor for the equipment being provided with
full manufacturer's warranty privileges. The Contractor will provide a letter from the
manufacturer certifying his relationship with the manufacturer prior to bidding.
Contractor shall have been in business for at least five (5) years and be the authorized
representative of the manufacturer of the above mentioned systems for a minimum of
five (5) years. Contractor shall also have the necessary licenses for the installation of
the above mentioned systems.
