Microphone stands (Provide 2) <br />2.6 ADA ASSISTIVE LISTENING SYSTEM <br />A. ALS (Assistive Listening System) is a requirement signed into law on July 26th 1990 by <br />the ADA (American Disabilities Act). It is summarized by: "No person shall be <br />discriminated against on the basis of disability in the full and equal enjoyment of the <br />goods, services, privileges, advantages and accommodations of any place of public <br />accommodation." The ADA prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in <br />employment, programs, and services provided by state and local governments, goods <br />and services provided by private companies, and in commercial facilities. This Act <br />includes provisions to accommodate hard of hearing people, including incorporating <br />Assistive Listening Systems in new building construction, in alterations or renovations <br />to buildings and facilities, and when improving access to existing facilities of private <br />companies providing goods or services to the public. All new facilities require full 4% <br />accessibility. By law, the A/V contractor shall be required to provide an ALS <br />transmitter capable of broadcast audio to all areas in cafeteria. It shall be the <br />responsibility of the owner to provide an accurate account of the number of receivers <br />required to full fill the minimum 4% ADA requirement. <br />The stationary FM transmitter shall be capable of broadcasting 57 channels. The <br />transmitter shall have a signal to noise ratio in excess of 80 dB. The output power <br />shall be adjustable to quarter, half or full. Channel tuning shall be capable of being <br />locked. The device shall broadcast on both wide and narrow band channels. The <br />device shall have an audio frequency of 50 — 10.0 kHz, + 3 dB @ 216 MHz. The <br />transmitter shall have two mixing audio inputs, and the following controls: <br />a. Input Level <br />b. Process Control <br />c. Adjustable low pass shelving. <br />The transmitter shall be installed with all accessories including a rack mount kit and <br />the remote antenna designed to meet the selected broadcast range. Acceptable <br />manufacturer: Listen Technologies LT -800-072 transmitter or equal. <br />2. The FM Receiver shall be capable of receiving 17 wide band channels and have a <br />Signal to Noise of 80 dB or greater. The receiver shall be capable of seeking <br />channels. This device shall have squelch. The device shall have an audio <br />frequency response of 50 —15.0 KHz + 3 dB @ 72 MHz. The device shall <br />incorporate a stereo headset jack that allows the user to plug in either a mono or <br />stereo headset for normal audio listening. The device shall incorporate an LCD <br />display that indicates channel, battery level, RF signal strength and channel lock. <br />The receiver shall incorporate automatic battery charging circuitry for recharging <br />NIMH batteries. The receivers shall be stored in an eight unit (charging) carrying <br />case and include all accessories including ear speakers, and rechargeable NiMH <br />batteries.
