TRENCHING AND BACKFILLING <br />Section 02210 <br />15-1207 <br />1.10 TRENCH SAFETY PROVISIONS <br />A. General Contractor shall be solely responsible for safety design, construction and <br />coordination with agencies having jurisdiction. If such plan varies from shoring system <br />standards established by Construction Safety Orders, plan shall be prepared by <br />registered civil or structural engineer. <br />B. Nothing herein shall be deemed to allow use of shoring, sloping or protective system <br />less effective than that required by Construction Safety Orders of California State <br />Division of Industrial Safety. <br />C. When trenching through paved surface, provide steel trench plates to cover open <br />trenches daily until trenches are backfilled. <br />1.11 SEASONAL LIMITS <br />A. No backfill material shall be placed, spread or rolled during unfavorable weather <br />conditions. When work is interrupted by heavy rains, full operations shall not be <br />resumed until field tests indicate that moisture content and density of fill are satisfactory. <br />B. Material above optimum moisture shall be processed per section 02200, 3.08, B. <br />1.12 TESTING <br />A. General: Refer to Section 02200 — Quality Requirements. <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.01 MATERIALS <br />A. Backfill materials: Pipeline and conduit trench backfill as shown on the plans and as <br />specified below. <br />1. 3/ inch crush rock as specified on the plans. <br />2. Native Materials: Soil native to Project Site, free of wood, organics, and other <br />deleterious substances. Rocks shall not be greater than 2 -inches. <br />3. Sand: Fine granular material, free of organic matter, mica, loam or clay. <br />4. Lean Mix Concrete: 3 sacks of cement per yard plus sand. <br />5. Class 2 aggregate base, %" rock, per Caltrans section 26-1.0213 <br />6. Controlled Density Fill: 3 sack slurry backfill. <br />B. Water: Furnish all required water for construction purposes, including compaction and <br />dust control. <br />C. Provide other bedding and backfill materials as described and specified in Section <br />02400, Section 02700 and Divisions 15 and 16. <br />3 <br />
