CHAIN LINK FENCES & GATES
Section 02444
15-1207
4. Double gates: Provide cane bolt and ground set keeper with locking device and
padlock eyes designed as integral part of latch, requiring one padlock for locking both
leaves.
J. Post caps: Cast or malleable iron ball or acorn shape; with opening for top rail.
K. Wire ties: For tying fabric to tension wires, use 11 ga. steel hog rings spaced 24" o.c.; for
tying fabric to posts, use 9 ga. steel wire spaced 12" o.c.; for tying fabric to rails and braces,
use 9 ga. steel wire spaced 24" o.c. These are minimums. Manufacturer's standard
procedure may require more ties.
L. Bands: Use 14 ga. x 1" wide steel bands spaced 15" o.c. for securing stretcher bars to end
and gate posts. Bands may be used in conjunction with special fitting for securing rails to end
and gate posts. Chamfer to ease projecting edges of bands.
M. Concrete: Portland cement, ASTM C150; aggregate, ASTM C33; clean water. Mix materials
to obtain low slump concrete with 28 day compressive strength of 3,000 psi. Maximum size
aggregate 1-1/2". Re -tempering not permitted.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. General: Execute work in accord with best trade practice for industrial fence installations.
Make welds neat and secure, grind off excess exposed metal. Securely set posts plumb in
alignment at proper depth and height, and rigid bracing where needed; install fabric under
tension and securely tie to posts, rails and braces. Gates shall move freely without sag.
B. Setting posts: Space posts as indicated (10 ft. o.c. max.). Pour and tamp concrete leaving
no voids. Check posts for vertical and top alignment and hold in position. Dome top of
concrete and trowel smooth to shed water away from post. Align posts in footings as follows:
Without Slats or Windscreen:
a. Line Posts to 8'-0" high max: 1'-0" diameter, 3'-3" min. embedment.
b. End, Corner & Pull Posts to 8'-0" high max: 1'-0" diameter, 4'-3" min. embedment.
C. Line Posts 8'-1" to 10'-0" high max: 1'-0" diameter, 3'-9" min. embedment.
d. End, Corner & Pull Posts 8'-1" to 10'-0" high max: 1'-6" dia., 5'-3" min. embed.
2. Gates (single leaf)
a. To 6 ft. wide: 12 inch diameter, 36 inch embedment.
Where posts occur adjacent to structures or other work where concrete foundations may
conflict with post footing, block out to allow post installation or use off -set post. Hold post 4
inches clear from face of structure
C. Tension wire: Provide wire at bottom of fence fabric. Install taut, tying to each post with 6 ga.
wire.
D. Fabric: Leave about 1-1/2" between ground and bottom barbs. Pull fabric taut and tie to
4
