LANDSCAPING <br />Section 02900 <br />Project 15-1207 <br />manufacturer's instructions for number of tablets to use for each container size. <br />4. See Drawings for additional information. <br />5. Grooming and Staking of Trees: <br />a. Prune, thin -out and shape trees in accordance with standard horticultural <br />practice. Prune trees to retain required height and spread. Unless <br />otherwise directed by Landscape Architect, do not cut tree leaders, and <br />remove only injured or dead branches from flowering trees. <br />b. Paint cuts over one-half inch (Y2") in size with standard tree paint or <br />compound, covering exposed, living tissue. Use paint that is waterproof, <br />antiseptic, adhesive, elastic and free of kerosene, coal tar, creosote, and <br />other substances harmful to plants. Do not use shellac. <br />C. Stake or guy trees immediately after planting, as indicated on Drawings. <br />6. Grooming of Shrubs: <br />a. Prune, thin -out and shape shrubs in accordance with standard <br />horticultural practice. Prune shrubs to retain natural character and to <br />accomplish their use in landscape design. The required plant size is its <br />size after pruning. <br />b. Remove and replace excessively pruned or malformed new plants <br />resulting from improper pruning. <br />C. Request review by the Landscape Architect after locating, but prior to planting all trees. <br />Under the direction of the Landscape Architect, make slight adjustments to plant material <br />location as necessary to reflect original intention of Drawings. <br />3.06 WEED CONTROL <br />A. Apply pre -emergent weed control to all planting areas (except lawn) after completion of <br />all planting and one complete watering. Follow manufacturer's directions. To prevent <br />washing away of weed control, do not over -water after its application. Do not allow any <br />weed control into lawn areas. Treat any existing noxious weeds, such as Johnson grass, <br />with Roundup in successive treatments until all roots are destroyed, then remove all <br />grass and roots. Notify Owner's Representative of time of installation for verification of <br />application. <br />3.07 BARK MULCH <br />A. Apply mulch at the rate of two inches (2") deep to all planting areas, exclusive of lawn, <br />after the planting and weed control are completed. Twelve inches (12") from planter <br />edges, taper full depth of mulch to meet adjacent grades. Do not place mulch within <br />three inches (3") of trunk or stems. <br />13 <br />
