CONCRETE MASONRY UNIT <br />Section 04300 <br />15-1207 <br />completely fill all voids and embed all reinforcing steel. When grouting is stopped for one <br />hour or longer, horizontal construction joint shall be formed by stopping the pour of grout not <br />less that 1/2 inch nor more than 2 inches below the top of the uppermost unit grouted. <br />Horizontal steel shall be fully embedded in grout in an uninterrupted pour. <br />H. High -Lift for CMU Grouted Construction: Where high -lift grouting is used, the method shall <br />conform with CBC Section 2104A.5.1.1.1.2 requirements, DSA IR 21-2.13 and be approved <br />by the Architect and DSA. Cleanout openings shall be provided at the bottom of each pour of <br />grout at all cells with reinforcing. Any overhanging mortar or other debris shall be removed <br />from the insides of cell walls. The foundation or other horizontal construction joints shall be <br />cleaned of all loose material and mortar droppings before each pour. The cleanouts shall be <br />sealed before grouting. An approved admixture that reduces early water loss and produces <br />an expansive action shall be used in the grout. Contractor shall submit a request to use <br />"High -Lift" in accordance with Section 01300. <br />I. Wall Cap: Form and screed rounded mortar cap at all walls with exposed tops. Cap shall be <br />level and smooth with minimum 1" rise at center of wall. <br />3.10 CONTROL AND EXPANSION JOINTS <br />A. Continue horizontal joint reinforcement through control and expansion joints. <br />B. Install preformed control joint device in continuous lengths. Seal butt and corner joints in <br />accordance with manufacturer' instructions. <br />C. Size control joints in accordance with Section 07900 for sealant performance. <br />D. Form expansion joints as detailed. <br />3.11 BUILT-IN WORK <br />A. As work progresses, build in metal door frames, window frames, anchor bolts, plates and <br />other items furnished by other Sections. <br />B. Build in items plumb and level. <br />C. Bed anchors of metal door and glazed frames in adjacent mortar joints. Fill frame voids solid <br />with grout. <br />D. Do not build in organic materials subject to deterioration. <br />3.12 TOLERANCES <br />A. Maximum Variation From Unit to Adjacent Unit: 1/32 inch. <br />B. Maximum Variation From Plane of Wall: 1/4 inch in 10 feet and 3/8 inch in 20 feet, Y2" max. <br />C. Maximum Variation From Plumb: 1/4 inch in 10 feet, 3/8 inch in 20 feet, 1/2 inch max. <br />13 <br />
