Maximum Variation of Joint Thickness: 1/8 inch in 3 feet. <br />F. Maximum Variation From Cross Sectional Thickness of Walls: 1/4 inch. <br />3.12 CUTTING AND FITTING <br />A. Openings in CMU walls shall conform with details on structural drawings. <br />B. Obtain Architect/Engineer approval prior to cutting or fitting masonry work not indicated or <br />where appearance or strength of masonry work may be impaired. <br />3.13 POINTING AND CLEANING <br />A. Clean work under provisions of Section 01700. <br />B. Remove excess mortar and mortar smears. <br />C. Point holes or defective mortar joints upon completion of work; where necessary, cut out and <br />re -point defective joints. Replace defective or damaged work with conforming work. Match <br />adjacent work. <br />D. Architect / Engineer shall review all proposals for the repair or replacement of damaged, <br />defective, or missing work. <br />E. Clean soiled surfaces with cleaning solution. Do not use acid solution to remove green stain <br />or efflorescence resulting from vanadium salts. Follow recommendations of manufacturer for <br />removal of such stains. When ordinary methods are not adequate, with Architect's approval, <br />employ sandblasting, chipping or other special methods. <br />F. At end of workday, fiber brush new surfaces to remove mortar splotches, clean with mild <br />detergent or enzymes, and rinse with clean water. <br />G. Use non-metallic tools in cleaning operations. <br />H. Protect finished installation under provisions of Section 01500. <br />Without damaging completed work, provide protective boards at exposed external corners <br />which may be damaged by construction activities. <br />3.14 PAINTING <br />A.
