STRUCTURAL STEEL <br />Section 05100 <br />15-1207 <br />1. Provide all temporary supports, shoring and bracing necessary to achieve work of <br />tolerances indicated. <br />2. Provide all necessary temporary flooring, planking and scaffolding required for erection <br />of steel, and support of erection machinery. <br />3. Construction Loading: Do not overload the structure or temporary supports with stored <br />materials, equipment or other loads. <br />4. Maintain temporary bracing and shoring until work is complete, and longer as required <br />to ensure stability and safety of structure. <br />K. Do not make final connections until structure is aligned to meet specified tolerances. <br />3.05 TESTING & INSPECTION FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL <br />A. Test structural steel material in accordance with CBC Section 2203A.3.1. Testing of ASTM <br />A-36 steel shall be based on Fy=36 ksi; testing of ASTM A500 steel shall be based on Fy = <br />46 ksi for Square & Rectangular HSS. Testing of A53 shall be based on Fy = 35 ksi; testing <br />of ASTM A992 steel shall be based on Fy = 50 ksi: and testing of ASTM A500 steel shall be <br />based on Fy = 42 ksi for round (HSS). <br />B. Test and inspect High Strength Bolts and installation in accordance with CBC Section <br />1704A.3.3 and 2212A.2. <br />C. Test end weld studs in accordance with CBC Section 2212A.3. <br />D. Inspect welding in accordance with CBC Section 1704A.3 and 1704A.3.1. Welding shall be <br />done under supervision of recognized testing laboratory by qualified Inspector approved by <br />DSA, who will furnish Architect, Structural Engineer and DSA with report, duly verified by <br />both Inspector and Laboratory, that the welding is adequate and has been done in conformity <br />with Drawings and Specifications and that Laboratory has used every means necessary to <br />determine quality of weld. Testing Laboratory may use gamma ray, magnaflux, trepanning, <br />or other non-destructive aid to visual inspection which it deems necessary to assure itself of <br />adequacy of welding. Every layer of weld shall be inspected for quality and every welded <br />joint shall be inspected for quality and every welded joint shall be inspected for agreement <br />with Drawings. <br />E. Inspect shop fabrication of steel trusses and steel braced frames in accordance with CBC <br />Section 1704A.3.2.1. The Inspector shall furnish the Architect, Structural Engineer and the <br />Division of the State Architect a report that the materials and workmanship conform to the <br />approved plans and specifications. <br />F. Costs in connection with shop fabricators, shop welding and field welding or tests for <br />structural steel will be paid as provided for in the General Conditions, except that costs of all <br />reinspection of items which did not initially pass and testing of unidentified steel will be <br />backcharged to the Contractor. <br />G. Shop Welding Inspection: <br />Testing Agency shall inspect and certify all structural welds, unless the fabricating <br />shop has been accredited in conformance with CBC requirements. Submit <br />certification to the Architect/Engineer for review and the Building Official for approval. <br />13 <br />
