ROUGH CARPENTRY <br />Section 06100 <br />15-1207 <br />bracing to allow freedom of workmen in building and erecting other work. <br />3.02 FRAMING <br />A. General: <br />1. Layout: Work as indicated on the Drawings. Set nailing blocks, anchors, bolts, grounds, <br />plates, backing, etc., required; establish lines, levels, and locations for work specified <br />under other sections, and see that all work is coordinated. Do all cutting, patching, and <br />fitting to accommodate work specified under other sections. <br />2. Lumber: Individual pieces of lumber for use in parts of work shall be selected in such <br />manner that knots and obvious minor defects will not interfere with placing of bolts, <br />proper nailing, or making good connections. Lumber shall be cut to length on job site <br />after verification of compliances with Article 2.02A by Project Inspector and Contractor. <br />Off-site cutting will not be allowed except as established by approved Change Order. <br />3. Framing for Piping: Frame partitions containing any piping to give proper clearance; <br />place pipe 1'/2' outside diameter or less in center of plate using neat round holes; no <br />notching allowed; pipes not to pass through sills or plate less than 5'/2' in width. Furr <br />partitions where required to conceal piping. <br />4. Fire Blocking: Provide 2" nominal thickness lumber for blocking by width of enclosed <br />spaces within partition; provide fire blocks at intersection of interior and exterior walls <br />with ceilings and roof to effectively cut all communication by fire through hollow <br />concealed space, and prevent vertical and horizontal draft. Use continuous row of fire <br />furring; place in such manner that no concealed air spaces greater than 10' in any <br />direction occur. Fire blocking and draft stops shall be provided in conformance with <br />CBC Section 717.2. <br />5. Structural Composite Lumber: Provided under Section 06160. Do not erect any for <br />which inspection certification has not been provided. <br />6. Wood Chord Metal Joists: Provided under Section 06170 — Wood chord Metal Joists. <br />Do not erect any for which inspection certification has not been provided. No cutting of <br />flanges or webs permitted. <br />7. Glue Laminated Members: Provided under Section 06180 — Glue Laminated Structural <br />Units. Do not erect any for which Inspection certification has not been provided. <br />Cutting is not permitted, except as shown on Drawings, or with written approval of <br />Structural Engineer. <br />8. Wood I Joists: Provided under Section 06190 — Prefabricated Wood I Joists. Do not <br />erect any for which inspection certificate has not been provided. No cutting of flanges <br />permitted unless noted otherwise; holes in web shall be only where indicated on <br />structural drawings. <br />9. Recessed Fixtures: Frame openings for panel boxes and other equipment, according <br />to requirements of fixtures provided. <br />10. Roof Strips, Roof Curbs and Nailers: Install at openings through roof, except where <br />prefabricated curbs are shown or specified. <br />Plywood Sheathing: See Drawings for thickness. All joints of wall sheathing must bear <br />on studs or blocking. All plywood nailing shall be as shown on Structural Drawings. <br />Closer nail spacing applies not only at all edges of all sheets, but also over all walls or <br />beams, and farthest nail spacing applies only at interior bearings other than as <br />specified above. <br />11. Use of nailing gun to apply nails is subject to a satisfactory jobsite demonstration for <br />7 <br />
