BUILDING INSULATION
Section 07210
15-1207
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 PRODUCT STANDARDS
A. References to manufacturer's names and products are to facilitate establishing level of
quality, function and method of application.
B. Thermal Resistance Value (R): Thermal resistance calculated on value of material itself,
without regard to location or method of installation.
Batt Insulation. (Unless specifically noted otherwise.)
a. For ceilings and ceiling/roof, R shall equal 30.
b. For framed walls, R shall equal 19.
2. Board Insulation. (Unless specifically noted otherwise.)
a. For metal wall framing behind exposed steel framing, R shall equal 5 per in.
C. Insulating materials must be certified by the manufacturer to comply with CBC, current
edition, Section 719.
2.02 MATERIALS
A. Thermal Batt Insulation (walls and ceiling/roof assemblies): Owens Corning Thermal Batt
Insulation or approved equal. Use throughout unless otherwise specified or shown. Flame
resistant FSK -25 (Foil -Scrim -Kraft Faced) complying with ASTM E-84 and ASTM C-665 in
batt or blanket form with flame spread 25 and smoke density 50.
Non -reflective Facing (Kraft Faced Insulation): Use where facing is in substantial
contact with unexposed surface or finish.
a. Integral Vapor Barrier: ASTM C665 Type II, Class C.
b. Water Vapor Transmission: ASTM E96: 1.0 perms maximum moisture
absorption less than 1 % by volume.
B. Sound Batt Insulation: Owens Corning Sound Attenuation Batts or approved equal,
complying with ASTM C-665, Type 1. Batts to be full depth of studs. Flame spread and
smoke density shall conform with CBC, current edition, Section 719 and ASTM E-84, FHC
25/50 or less.
C. Board Wall Insulation, 1 inch thick, unless otherwise noted, Owens Corning Foamular 250
XPS extruded polystyrene rigid foam board, 1.6 pcf density, 25 psi compressive strength, or
accepted equal; Complying with ASTM E 84 with Flame Spread less than 25 and Smoke
Development less than 450, and tested in accordance with NFPA 285.
D. Vapor Barrier: All insulation shall have an integral vapor barrier on inside face unless
otherwise noted. Vapor barrier shall have vapor permeance of not more than one perm when
tested in accord with ASTM E-96. All insulation materials including facings installed within
floor -ceiling assemblies, roof -ceiling assemblies, walls, crawl spaces or attics shall have a
flame -speed rating not to exceed 25 and a smoke density not to exceed 450 as per the
California Building Code, current edition, Section 720.
3
