JOINT SEALANTS
Section 07900
15-1207
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
A. General: Use of specific manufacturer's name and product is provided for the purpose of
establishing the standard of quality and performance desired. Products of other
manufacturers will be considered in accordance with the General Conditions and Division 1
requirements.
B. Substrate Types: Sealant selection shall be based on the substrate surface types.
Contractor is responsible for accurately identifying the substrate materials and selecting the
appropriate sealant and for providing the proper testing and preparation measures
necessary for the correct bonding of the sealant to the substrate:
1. Porous Materials: Absorbs water. Includes masonry, wood, and concrete.
2. Non -Porous Materials: Includes metal and glass.
3. Sealants meeting both porous and non -porous materials may require a primer for
proper adhesion to the material for which they were not designed. Example:
Aluminum windows at masonry construction (Porous Materials Adhered to Non -Porous
Materials) usually require a primer on the aluminum if the sealant was designed for
porous materials. Primer should be field verified by the manufacturer's representative
and should include pull-out tests after initial curing period of 14 -days before work
begins. Contractor is responsible for priming and testing.
C. Sealant Types:
Porous Materials Adhered to Porous Materials, Weatherproofing Sealant, Non-
Paintable:
a. Reference Standard: ASTM C920, Type S, Grade NS, Class 100/50, Use T, NT,
M, G, A, and O.
b. Single Component Silicone: Dow Corning 790 or approved equal.
C. Joint Movement Capabilities: 100 percent extension and 50 percent compression
in accordance with ASTM C719.
d. Color: Color as selected by Architect from manufacturer's standard colors.
2. Non -Porous Materials Adhered to both Porous and Non -Porous Materials,
Weatherproofing Sealant, Non-Paintable. Neutral curing.
a. Reference Standard: ASTM C920, Type S, Grade NS, Class 50, Use NT, M, G,
A, and O.
b. Single Component Silicone: Dow Corning 791, Dow Corning 795, Dow Corning
756 SMS (non -staining) or approved equal.
C. Joint Movement Capabilities: 50 percent extension and 50 percent compression
in accordance with ASTM C719.
d. Color: color as selected by Architect.
3. Non -Porous Materials Adhered to Non -Porous Materials, Structural Sealant, Non-
Paintable: Includes glass to glass and glass to metal.
a. Reference Standard: ASTM C920, Grade NS, Class 50 Use NT, M, G, A, and
O.
3
