JOINT SEALANTS <br />Section 07900 <br />15-1207 <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.01 MATERIALS <br />A. General: Use of specific manufacturer's name and product is provided for the purpose of <br />establishing the standard of quality and performance desired. Products of other <br />manufacturers will be considered in accordance with the General Conditions and Division 1 <br />requirements. <br />B. Substrate Types: Sealant selection shall be based on the substrate surface types. <br />Contractor is responsible for accurately identifying the substrate materials and selecting the <br />appropriate sealant and for providing the proper testing and preparation measures <br />necessary for the correct bonding of the sealant to the substrate: <br />1. Porous Materials: Absorbs water. Includes masonry, wood, and concrete. <br />2. Non -Porous Materials: Includes metal and glass. <br />3. Sealants meeting both porous and non -porous materials may require a primer for <br />proper adhesion to the material for which they were not designed. Example: <br />Aluminum windows at masonry construction (Porous Materials Adhered to Non -Porous <br />Materials) usually require a primer on the aluminum if the sealant was designed for <br />porous materials. Primer should be field verified by the manufacturer's representative <br />and should include pull-out tests after initial curing period of 14 -days before work <br />begins. Contractor is responsible for priming and testing. <br />C. Sealant Types: <br />Porous Materials Adhered to Porous Materials, Weatherproofing Sealant, Non- <br />Paintable: <br />a. Reference Standard: ASTM C920, Type S, Grade NS, Class 100/50, Use T, NT, <br />M, G, A, and O. <br />b. Single Component Silicone: Dow Corning 790 or approved equal. <br />C. Joint Movement Capabilities: 100 percent extension and 50 percent compression <br />in accordance with ASTM C719. <br />d. Color: Color as selected by Architect from manufacturer's standard colors. <br />2. Non -Porous Materials Adhered to both Porous and Non -Porous Materials, <br />Weatherproofing Sealant, Non-Paintable. Neutral curing. <br />a. Reference Standard: ASTM C920, Type S, Grade NS, Class 50, Use NT, M, G, <br />A, and O. <br />b. Single Component Silicone: Dow Corning 791, Dow Corning 795, Dow Corning <br />756 SMS (non -staining) or approved equal. <br />C. Joint Movement Capabilities: 50 percent extension and 50 percent compression <br />in accordance with ASTM C719. <br />d. Color: color as selected by Architect. <br />3. Non -Porous Materials Adhered to Non -Porous Materials, Structural Sealant, Non- <br />Paintable: Includes glass to glass and glass to metal. <br />a. Reference Standard: ASTM C920, Grade NS, Class 50 Use NT, M, G, A, and <br />O. <br />3 <br />
