JOINT SEALANTS <br />Section 07900 <br />15-1207 <br />E. Do not proceed with the installation of sealants under conditions where joint to be sealed is <br />damp, wet or frozen, or when temperatures are below or above the manufacturer's <br />recommended limitations for installation. Consult the manufacturer for specific instructions <br />before proceeding. <br />3.02 PREPARATION <br />A. Clean joints in compliance with manufacturer's instructions. <br />B. Remove loose materials and foreign matter, which might impair adhesion of sealant. <br />C. Verify that joint backing and release tapes are compatible with sealant. <br />D. Perform preparation in accordance with ASTM C 804 for solvent release. <br />E. Protect work surrounding the work of this Section from damage. <br />3.03 INSTALLATION <br />A. Sealant Application: Apply sealant in compliance with manufacturer's application <br />instructions, using hand guns or pressure equipment with proper nozzle size, on clean, dry, <br />properly prepared substrates. Force sealants into joint against sides of joint to make uniform. <br />Avoid pulling of the sealant from the sides. Fill sealant space completely with sealant. <br />B. Tooling: Tooling is required to ensure firm full contact with the interfaces of the joint. Tool <br />joints to form smooth, uniform beads with slightly concave surfaces. Finished joints shall be <br />straight, uniform, smooth, and neatly finished. Remove any excess sealant from adjacent <br />surfaces of joint utilizing the manufacturer's recommended solvent and cleaning processes. <br />Leave the work in a neat, clean condition. <br />C. Where an irregular surface or sensitive joint border exists, the applicator shall apply masking <br />tape at the edge of the joint to insure joint neatness and protection. Remove tape after <br />sealant is applied. <br />3.04 SCHEDULE <br />A. General: In addition to schedule locations below, seal all cracks and openings in Toilet <br />Rooms and Food Service areas to satisfy requirements of California State Department of <br />Health. <br />B. Schedule: Indicated major locations of Work of this Section. Schedule does not attempt to <br />itemize all locations required due to job conditions or changed conditions. <br />Exterior Locations: <br />a. Seal around perimeters of exterior door, window and louver frames where they <br />meet exterior finishes of building and as further indicated in the drawings. <br />b. Seal laps of all GSM and aluminum flashings, accessories and other connections <br />between dissimilar materials as indicated in drawings and as required to make <br />waterproof. Sealant required at metal roofing shall be provided by roofing <br />installer and as recommended by metal roofing manufacturer. <br />C. Set all thresholds and sills in continuous double bead of sealant. Provide sealant <br />5 <br />
