LINOLEUM FLOOR COVERING Section 09654 15-1207 3.05 INSTALLATION OF ACCESSORIES A. Apply top set wall base to walls, columns, casework and other permanent fixtures in areas where top -set base is required. Install base in lengths as long as practical, with inside corners fabricated from base materials that are mitered or coped. Tightly bond base to vertical substrate with continuous contact at horizontal and vertical surfaces. B. Fill voids with plastic filler along the top edge of the resilient wall base or integral cove cap on masonry surfaces or other similar irregular substrates. C. Fill voids at wall/floor intersection prior to installation of base. D. Place resilient edge strips tightly butted to flooring and secure with adhesive recommended by the edge strip manufacturer. Install edge strips at edges of flooring that would otherwise be exposed. E. Apply overlap metal edge strips where shown on the drawings, after flooring installation. Secure units to the substrate, complying with the edge strip manufacturer's recommendations. F. Where edge strips occur at door openings, center directly below door in closed position. 3.06 CLEANING, FINISHING AND PROTECTION A. Sweep or vacuum thoroughly to remove all loose dust and dirt. B. Remove any dried adhesive residue with a clean, white cloth dampened with mineral spirits, carefully following warnings on container. C. If necessary, the floor may be damp mopped with a dilute neutral (pH 6-8) detergent solution. Note: Do not machine scrub the floor for at least five days after installation. This is to prevent excess moisture from interfering with the adhesive bond and/or seam treatments. Note: Do not use brown or black pads, or equivalent brushes. Their use could result in permanent damage to the floor. D. Scrub the floor with a properly diluted neutral detergent solution using an automatic or single - disc floor machine (175 rpm) equipped with green scrubbing pad (3M green or equal). E. If using a single disc floor machine, remove dirty cleaning solution with a wet vacuum or mop. F. Thoroughly rinse with clean water and allow to dry. G. It is important to protect the floor during the installation and construction phase. If other on-site work is continuing, consider using a protective covering such as plain, undyed Kraft paper to guard against damage to the new floor. When moving heavy fixtures or appliances over the flooring on casters or dollies, the flooring should be protected with 1/4" or thicker plywood, hardboard or other underlayment panels. 3.07 EXTRA STOCK A. Furnish 5 yards of the amount installed in a rolled swatch of each color of flooring. Tag with manufacturer's name and color pattern. 7
