CARPETING <br />Section 09680 <br />15-1207 <br />E. Inspection of subsurfaces: Before starting installation of any carpet or base, thoroughly <br />examine all surfaces on which finish flooring and base are to be applied. Examination <br />includes bond, moisture and alkali testing of concrete sub -floors. No extra payment for work <br />additional to that shown and/or specified in plans and specifications as may be necessary for <br />complete applications of the resilient flooring will be allowed if such additional work is <br />apparent from inspection of existing premises and conditions. <br />F. Cleaning and preparation of existing sub -floors: Prepare existing sub -floor as required to <br />receive new carpet. Include removal of existing flooring and adhesive; cleaning of sub -floors, <br />patching of cracks and other imperfections, and leveling of depressions and holes. Cracks, <br />holes and depressions shall be patched and level with proper patching and leveling <br />compounds hereinbefore specified. <br />G. Beginning of installation will imply acceptance of sub -floor by installer. <br />3.02 INSTALLATION: Mill applied dry adhesive <br />A. Floor preparation: Subfloors shall be smooth, dry, repaired as necessary, and clean of <br />debris. A latex emulsion filler compatible with the adhesive is to be used for necessary <br />patching and leveling. <br />B. Carpet, General: Methods and workmanship are to be in strict accord with carpet <br />manufacturer's recommendations so all guarantees apply. Carpet shall be laid using <br />continuous lengths and broadest widths possible. <br />C. Sheet Carpet: All pieces shall run in the same direction. Quarter turning or reversing is <br />unacceptable. Carpet shall be laid with minimum number of seams, in strict accordance with <br />approved layout. Cross seams, necessitated by roll size, shall be kept to a minimum number <br />and located in low traffic areas, away from doors and pivot points. Cross seams will not be <br />allowed in single rooms of 1000 square feet or less. <br />D. Extend carpet under open -bottomed obstructions, and under removable flanges, or <br />obstructions. Extend carpet into closets and alcoves of rooms to be carpeted, unless another <br />floor finish is indicated for such spaces. Extend carpet under all movable furniture and <br />equipment unless otherwise indicated. <br />E. Transition Strips or reducers: Provide wherever carpeting abuts other types of floors or floor <br />covering. Install straight and true. Fasten to floor using adhesive or mechanical fasteners in <br />accordance with manufacturer's directions. Where carpet terminates at door openings, <br />center strips under doors. <br />F. When using sheet carpet, chemically weld all seams with manufacturer's recommended <br />seam sealer as stated in installation instructions. Make sure the seam is fully sealed. Roll <br />with appropriate roller for complete contact of carpet with mill -applied adhesive to sub -floor. <br />G. Provide and install additional carpet at floor electrical trim rings, trim carpet neatly at walls and <br />around interruptions. <br />H. Completed carpet is to be smooth and free of bubbles, puckers and other defects. <br />3.03 PROTECTION <br />A. Protect work and materials of this Section before and during installation, and protect the <br />5 <br />
