eekly Inspections The AESC shall perform biweekly inspections of the Scale house, the Transfer Building, and the Employee/Maintenance Facility for unsafe conditions. The biweekly inspections include the following: • Are exit doors marked? • Are doors free of obstruction so they will open freely in an emergency? • Are all fire extinguishers full, mounted, and readily accessible? • Are First Aid Kits stocked and accessible? • Are utility shut -offs accessible and unobstructed? • Are the eye wash facilities working properly and unobstructed? • Are walkways clear of obstruction? • Are the lunchrooms free of toxic materials or other health hazards? • Are there any spills that may be a hazard when walking? • Are ladders in safe condition, and are ladder steps free of grease and oil? • Are the step boxes stable? • Are employees instructed to use safety devices? 6 PREVENTION STEPS eekly Inspections The AESC shall perform biweekly inspections of the Scale house, the Transfer Building, and the Employee/Maintenance Facility for unsafe conditions. See Figures 2 and 3 for the location of fire extinguishers, First Aid Kits, utility shut -offs and eye -wash stations/showers. Safety Procedures Employees will wear the following safety equipment, as appropriate for the work tasks: • Safety glasses, shields, or goggles when grinding metal or striking metal with a hammer. • Welding goggles or welding hood when welding or cutting or cutting metal. • Gloves when working with sharpedge or cumbersome material. • Face mask when working in a dusty environment, when under vehicles with falling dirt particles, or when spray painting. In addition, employees will put safety stands under vehicles held up by hydraulic floor jacks.
