1.8.1.2 Training <br />Station personnel attend regularly scheduled training meetings. In accordance with 14 CCR, <br />Section 17410.3, these training meetings emphasize proper station operation and maintenance, <br />hazardous waste recognition and screening, environmental and nuisance controls, use of <br />equipment, safety procedures, and emergency situation procedures. In addition, all employees <br />receive regular safety tips and training, as well as opportunities for formal education or equipment <br />qualification instruction when necessary. Training sessions occur monthly with bi-weekly <br />"tailgate" meetings. A record of personnel training is maintained at the LTS main administration <br />office for reference during facility inspections. <br />1.8.2 Communications Equipment <br />Facility managers, supervisors and equipment operators are equipped with pagers and portable <br />radios. Managers have telephones in their offices for internal and external communications. <br />Scale and gate house operators also have access to portable radios and telephones which will <br />permit communication to the Supervisor and the main office. <br />1.8.3 Safety Program <br />MRF staff are equipped with and are required to use proper safety equipment. Minimal required <br />safety gear provided includes boots with puncture resistant soles, leather uppers and leather <br />soles, safety vest, gloves, safety glasses and hard hats. In addition, ear plugs and dust masks <br />are available and required when performing any task that could produce flying particles or <br />excessive noise levels. Gloves are provided and required when handling materials with sharp or <br />jagged edges which may result in lacerations. In addition, heavy equipment operators use radios <br />to communicate constantly with ground crew and to minimize any possible accidents. County <br />vehicles housed onsite are equipped with flashing lights and audible beeping signals when <br />backing. <br />First aid kits are provided and are located in the MRF, maintenance and administrative offices <br />and eye-wash/shower units and drinking water units are located throughout the working areas. <br />Both men's and women's lavatories with handicapped accommodations and showers are <br />Lovelace MRF and Transfer Station Depart <br />ment of Public Works/Solid Waste Division <br />Transfer Processing Report County of San Joaquin <br />April 10, 2015 6 <br />
