FOR REFERENCE ONLY BUSINESS CONFIDENTIAL <br /> Hazardous Materials Spill Response HAZ-006 <br /> Repacking Rain-Soaked or Torn, Non-Leaking Materials <br /> Repacking Rain-Soaked or Torn, Non-Leaking Materials <br /> Repack rain-soaked or torn non-leaking lithium battery, or Limited Quantity packages with the white <br /> square-on-point marking as follows. (Refer to OP-890 for more information.) <br /> • Only properly trained and qualified employees may repack rain-soaked or torn non-leaking <br /> packages of this classification. <br /> • Obtain a repack box of sufficient size for the undamaged material. Do not repack wet batteries. <br /> Wait for them to dry and then individually bag each battery. Use scanner BATTERYBAG if <br /> necessary. <br /> • Repack the item in a similar-sized box in a manner that prevents the contents from shifting. Add <br /> additional folded cardboard to ensure that the repackaged inner containers are not able to move <br /> around in the box. <br /> • Mark the outside of the box exactly how the original was marked and use the appropriate lithium <br /> battery (transfer UN Identification number and phone number from original battery mark), or <br /> Limited Quantity label from supplies. <br /> • Apply orientation arrows on two opposing sides of the package. <br /> • Forward the item to the consignee only if it is in like-new condition and DOT compliant. <br /> Cleanup Material <br /> All cleanup material that has come into contact with a damaged or leaking package must be <br /> processed in accordance with the disposition from Safety, PGH. Cleanup material may include, but <br /> is not limited to: <br /> • Contaminated PPE <br /> • Absorbent material <br /> • Neutralizing material <br /> • Any other material or supply that comes into direct contact with a spilled material such as the <br /> cardboard from other packages impacted by the spill <br /> Undeclared Hazmats <br /> Do not send undeclared hazardous materials to the station/hub or RTS them. If the shipper or <br /> recipient cannot pick up an undeclared Hazmat, submit a Hazmat incident report and contact <br /> Environmental Affairs for instructions. In all cases, complete a Hazmat ISF for any undeclared <br /> package even if it is picked up by the shipper or recipient.
