and in the equipment maintenance building at the landfill. Landfill personnel are <br />trained to perform initial fire suppression activities using appropriate site equipment, <br />stockpiled soil cover, and when necessary, a water truck. <br />The on-site water wells and a water storage tank provide water for fire suppression. <br />Water storage facilities consist of the primary 1,500-gpm on-site production well <br />located adjacent to the landfill entrance and a 500-gpm on-site production well <br />located by the RRF and Composting Facility. In addition, a water tank is located on <br />the south portion of the RRF and Compost Facility area. <br />In addition, measures are taken to provide adequate perimeter clearance or fire burn <br />as part of the landfills operation. Fires starting either on the landfill or the Compost <br />Facility would be hindered from spread to the other by the South Fork of South <br />Littlejohn's Creek, which splits the property and these facilities and creating a natural <br />fire break. <br />4.2 WATER SUPPLY <br />There are three agrieu lturefour production water wells and one domest ie well at the <br />site. One well, located near the main entrance facility was drilled to a depth of <br />approximately 135 feet and groundwater occurs at a depth of approximately 70 feet. <br />The well was likely installed before the opening of the landfill, having been previously <br />used for agricultural purposes. It is pumped at a rate of approximately 1,500 gallons <br />per minute (gpm) at a maximum frequency of approximately 27 times in a typica l <br />work day. Another well is located south of the South Fork of South Littlejohn's Creek <br />in the southeast corner of the RRF/Compost Facility area, and has a capacity of 500 <br />gpm. The third well is located along the northern boundary of the former Austin Road <br />Landfill. This well was installed in 1972 and has a production of approximately 60 <br />gpm. The fact that groundwater flow near the existing Forward Landfill is not <br />modified by pumping from this well suggests that it is screened in a confined unit <br />below the uppermost groundwater units that are monitored at the site. GAe <br />domestie well,The fourth production well is located along the eastern boundary of the <br />site, just south of the entrance to the RRF/Compost Facility. The locations of the <br />wells located in the RRF/Compost Facility area is shown on Figure 1. <br />These water supplies are available for initial mixing of the compost to bring the water <br />content up to desired levels, and wetting of the compost. Additional on-site water <br />uses include site construction and waste disposal operations, RRF and compost <br />operations, dust control, compaction, irrigation, equipment maintenance operations, <br />sanitary facilities, firefighting, and emergency situations. Bottled water is provided <br />for drinking. <br />4.3 EQUIPMENT <br />The equipment available at the facility is presented on Table B9 of the RCSI. <br />Additional equipment, such as Windrow turning equipment and temperature and <br />moisture probes, will be used, as needed, to meet the requirements of the compost <br />operation standards, including minimization of odors. Facility equipment will be <br />maintained according to standard maintenance practice and the manufacturer's <br />recommendations.
