Page 2
Beyond that, if you wish to remove the chloroform from your drinking water,
a small charcoal filter unit may be placed at your kitchen tap. Such a unit
can be obtained from a local water treatment company. It should be noted
that maintenance and filter cartridge replacement are required periodically
to insure the chloroform is completely filtered out. Check your yellow pages
under water filtration and purification equipment and phone one for a cost
estimate on these units. Enclosed is an information sheet from the Pacific
Water Quality Association which provides useful guidance regarding the
selection of treatment equipment.
Should you have further questions regarding this matter, please phone Carl
Borgman of my staff at 466-6781 , ext.56.
Sincerely,
Ronald Valinoti , Director
Environmental Health Division
San Joaquin Local Health District
Enclosure
cc: Evelyn Costa, Board of Supervisors
Regional Water Quality Control Board
Ms. Mary Ann Love, Trustee
Robert Grimshaw, District Engineer,
Public Water Supply Board
