Kraham San Joaquin County
RE: PRIVATE WELL WATER ANALYSIS
A recent water sample taken from your private domestic water well by the
California Regional Water Qualtiy Control Board, Central Valley Reg_i_on
indicated the following:
CHEMICAL CONSTITUENT SAMPLE RESULT FEDERAL/STATE STANDARD
 I
CHLOROFORM 4 - C _C -C_I_ ppb NONE
It should be noted that there are not federal or state chloroform standards
for private water wells. For large public water systems that chlorinate
their water supply, there is a standard of 10J ppb for trihalomethanes.
These large systems maintain a chlorine reisidual for disinfection purposes
throughout the water distribution system, and it is not uncommon to have a
chloroform level of 50 ppb according to state sources. It should be noted
that the chloroform level in your water well is considerably below this level .
Although toxicological studies have indicated that chloroform does not cause
cancer in humans, the United States Environmental Protection Agency feels
there is a theoretical cancer risk of one additional case in a population of
one million people who continuously drink water with a chloroform level of
0.19 ppb during a seventy (70) year period. It is also worth noting according
to statistics that one in every 4 Americans contract cancer during a lifetime.
We feel confident that the California Regional Water Quality Control Board,
Central Valley Region will take appropriate steps to identify the source and
extent of contamination and take appropriate measures to abate the source and/
or take action for cleanup where warranted.
If you have concern over the level of chloroform identified in your water well ,
we are suggesting that you use one of the State Certified Laboratories in the
list which is attached to confirm the sample result shown above.
