(SMS) — Resi- dents.of a rural Tracy subdivision won't be warned against drinking their water, but county health of- ficials will monitor chloroform levels detected in the system. Ron Valinoti, director of envi- ronmental health for the San Joa- quin Local Health District, said Monday that residents of Maur - land Manor in Tracy won't be sent letters about the water con- tamination. But residents of homes with individual wells nearby will be told of the contam. ination. The chloroform issue surfaced last week when the San Joaquin County Planning Commission dis- cussed a subdivision proposed south of Fairoaks Road and 2,000 feet east of MacArthur Drive, southeast of Tracy. Jim Miller of the health, district told commis- sioners that he recently received information from the state that revealed chloroform in individual wells just ,north of.the proposed project. Because the 20'homes in Maur- land Manor, .northeast of the pro- ject, also had chloroform readings in their two community,, wells, Miller said, residents ;would be told not to drink their water.
