According to the company web site, Pep Boys provides many types of vehicle related sales and services including but not limited to the following: • Car audio • Suspension and ride control • Engine tuning • Exhaust • Battery installation • Belts and hoses • Brake services • Diagnostic and evaluation services • Fluid exchange services • Shocks struts, steering and suspension • Air conditioning systems • Filter replacement • Fuel system cleaning • Original equipment scheduled maintenance • Tires • Parts—engine, cooling system, ignition, steering and suspension, brakes, etc. See photos in Appendix A. In the servicing of vehicles, Pep Boys collects used (waste) oil and used (waste) coolant. Used oil is hazardous substances under California law. The used oil is temporarily stored in the Waste Oil Tank, and used coolant is temporarily stored in the Waste Coolant Tank. The hazardous waste tank system that is the subject of this certification report comprises these two tanks. Pep Boys employees drive customers' vehicles into one of the service bays and where they are raised on lifts. Waste oil and waste coolant are drained from the vehicles into wheeled collection units. This collection unit can collect waste oil from numerous vehicles and are "containers" under the California Health and Safety Code and therefore not art of this certification. When full, the waste oil collection units are brought to the Waste Oil Tank. Air pressure is used to transfer the contents of the unit into the tank. When the tank is full the transporter's truck arrives and connects to the tank. Waste Coolant is handled in a very similar way. The only difference is that the collection unit has an on -board pump used to transfer the coolant. The 3
