SDS and disinfectant PPE research.
08/31/2021 I received a complaint regarding respiratory symptoms due to a strong odor at VANG-LEE
Walmart. Elena Manzo and I met with the Walmart store manager Chanel
Roussel-Sok. Chanel showed us the disinfectant solution that is currently used for
their shopping carts. The solution is called Bioesque Botanical Disinfectant
Solution. Per the labeling, it is in a ready-to-use form and does not need to be
diluted.
I returned to the office and called the complainant. The complainant stated that
when they arrived at Walmart on 08/30/2021 with their mother, they both noticed a
strong odor and began experiencing headache, nausea, runny nose, itchy through,
and chest pain. When the complainant asked the employees what the smell was,
they stated it was their cart disinfectant. The complainant stated that they were
stilll experiencing chest pain today. I advised the complainant to seek medical
attention and to notify me if it worsens.
I looked up the safety data sheets for the disinfectant solution. The active
ingredient is thymol.
Photo log was completed.
I left a message for Walmart manager Chanel at 209-570-3970 to get clarification
regarding their maximum storage amount for the solution, employee training for
disinfecting, and personal protective equipment use.
5105.rpt
