Foothill Sanitary Landfill
FSL is located in eastern San Joaquin County at 6484 N. Waverly
Road, four miles east of Linden, CA. The landfill is a single Class III
Waste Management Unit on an 800 -acre parcel. This Unit is comprised
of Module "I", Module 1, 2A, and future modules. Future modules will
overlap onto other completed modules, including Module "I" until final
closure of the Unit. Waste discharged to the landfill includes municipal
waste, construction/ demolition waste, and agricultural waste.
1. Geology and Hydrogeology
The first water bearing zone encountered is in sandy gravel at a depth
of more than 200 feet below the ground surface. Groundwater
elevations vary between approximately 38 and 61 feet MSL.
Groundwater elevations fluctuate less than one foot seasonally. The
groundwater is unconfined or partially confined. Above the water -
bearing zone, the soil layers are moderately to well -cemented layers of
sandstone and siltstone with claystone and conglomerates. This soil is
mostly moderately slow in permeability with sporadic sandy layers that
are well drained.
Drilling and logging the temporary borings would help SWD determine the
areas lithology and compile a soil's report to be used by the construction
contractor for Module 213's soil excavation and soil screening.
The borings will be drilled south of Module 2A away from the lined area
and refuse (Figure 1). Drilling locations will be adjusted in the field based
on site conditions. Each boring will be drilled to estimated depth of 200 ft.
Work Plan -FH -Temp Borings San Joaquin County
November 10, 2017 Department Of Public Works
1 Solid Waste Division
