WESWRN PUMP <br /> Petroleum & Lubrication Equipment Specialists <br /> Workers that are suspended for only a few minutes can begin to develop suspension trauma <br /> or orthostatic intolerance , due to the lack of blood flow in the lower part of their body . The <br /> physical effects of being suspended and immobilized vertically may differ from person to <br /> person , but most experience: <br /> 1 . Difficulty in using the legs or moving <br /> 2. Sudden drop in blood pressure <br /> 3. Dizziness , sweaty, shock like symptoms <br /> 4. Breathing difficulty <br /> Once rescued , the affected worker should be placed in a sitting position , preferably on the <br /> ground , with their legs drawn up to their chest. If they are forced to lie down , the acidic rich <br /> blood that is trapped in their lower body will be sent back to the vital organs , which may <br /> cause what is known as " reflow syndrome" . <br /> Rescue Provision <br /> The Company shall utilize the following rescue provision in the event a worker issuspended : <br /> 1 . Self rescue- The worker swings to the side and is able to reach a surface thatallows <br /> them to climb back up , or climb in a window or door opening . <br /> 2 . Partner assisted rescue- A co-worker lowers a rescue ladder and the worker is able to <br /> climb back up . Or, a machine such as a scissor or boom lift is used to reach the <br /> person from the ground . <br /> 3. 3rd party- 911 is called and Emergency Medical Responders (EMS) responds and <br /> rescues the worker. <br /> Site Specific Fall Rescue Plan <br /> For the purposes of the jobsite located on Mesa Rd . at LIC Irvine the following site specific <br /> procedures shall be followed in the event that a worker is in need of rescue from a fall : <br /> 1 . If the fall has occurred on top of the roof and the worker is hanging from the purlin , <br /> another worker will immediately respond to the fallen worker with a ladder rescue . <br /> Workers shall only work on ladders when near purlins and shall not walk on top of <br /> purlins to avoid a pendulum effect should the worker fall . <br /> 2. If the fall has occurred over the side of the building the worker shall see if they are <br /> able to reach the next level down .
