FOR REFERENCE ONLY
Fed
Spill Response Procedures
ENV-401
Department Owner: Environmental Affairs
FedEx Ground and FedEx Ground, Ltd. Last Update: 27 May 2020
Spills of fuels, oils, antifreeze, and other vehicle fluids resulting from operation of on-site or off-site
fuel storage and dispensing systems or resulting from vehicle accidents, can result in significant
environmental damages as well as damages to other parties that must be carefully managed to
minimize liability. Spills result in contamination of all surfaces (i.e., asphalt, soil, surface water, and
ground water) that are all very costly to remediate.
Failure to comply with regulatory requirements in responding to vehicle fluid spills can also result in
significant fines and possible civil or criminal penalties.
Audience & Scope
All FedEx Ground (FXG) managers and employees must adhere to the procedures and guidelines
described in this document.
Regulatory Requirements
Federal and state/provincial regulations require immediate actions with regard to the response,
reporting and associated cleanup resulting from spills.
Spill Response Procedures
Station/Hub managers must immediately respond to all incidents and evaluate the spill to determine
the proper response measures. All onsite and offsite spills that cannot be contained and cleaned up
by FXG personnel or has impacted surface waters, drains, or soils must be reported to FXG
Emergency Spill Response Service at 833-FXG-SPIL.
Onsite Spill Procedures
Immediately contain the spill, prevent access to the area, and assess the situation to determine the
proper course of corrective action.
If the spill cannot be contained and cleaned up before it reaches surface waters, storm drains, or
sanitary sewers, or is significant in size and cannot be cleaned up with onsite resources, contact:
• FXG Emergency Spill Response Service at 833-FXG-SPIL. FXG Emergency Spill Response
Service will dispatch a response vendor and perform additional responsibilities identified in the
below section.
• Local Safety personnel
• Environmental Affairs department if assistance is needed
Last Update: 27 May 2020 Page 1 of 3
