Identified Contamination Source Evaluation
5. Small volumes of chemicals are
stored in a shed behind the
Quonset hut. Two empty
insecticide containers were
observed near the irrigation well.
(Current on-site)
Al
7
Pe
10
Three pole -mounted electrical
transformers were observed on the
Site; two of these were labeled
PCB -free. (Current on-site)
Sampling results indicate that
nitrate and DBCP are present in
the domestic well at concentrations
of 18.6 mg/L-N and 0.29 ug/L,
respectively, and nitrate is present
in the irrigation well at a
concentration of 14.2 mg/L-N.
These values exceed the MCLs for
nitrate and DBCP. (Current on-
site)
Two aboveground storage tanks
were observed at the adjacent
property to the south of the Site.
(Current off-site)
Four facilities within one-quarter
mile of the Site were identified on
the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department's
lists of hazardous materials,
hazardous waste, and fuel tank
sites. (Current and past off-site)
One natural gas well was identified
within one-quarter mile of the Site;
the well has been plugged and
abandoned. (Past off-site)
The San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department
provides regulatory oversight for
hazardous materials handling and
storage. It is anticipated that the
empty containers will be disposed
as part of routine "housekeeping."
The utility provider may have more
information on the PCB content of
the unlabeled transformer.
It is recommended that bottled water
be consumed until such time as the
well water can be brought to below
the MCL for these constituents.
Installation of a whole -house water
filter may be an option.
Although the tanks are relatively
close to the Site, no evidence of any
impact to the Site was identified.
No evidence was identified to
suggest that these facilities have
impacted the subject Site.
Hazardous materials may be
associated with the drilling of the
natural gas wells. Regulatory
oversight for these activities is
provided by the California Geologic
Energy Management Division.
LOGE 2123 10
