Called and spoke to Kelly Durrer, Medline FLORIDO
Industries Regional EHS Manager, who stated their fueling contractor, Manfield,
overfilled the facility's newly installed diesel emergency backup generator, causing
a release of 1-2 gallons of diesel onto the side of the emergency generator, the
generator's concrete slab, and the rocks surrounding the slab. Kelly stated that
Manfield cleaned the side of the generator and the concrete slab using absorbent
pads and kitty litter, but the spill on the rocks has not been cleaned. Kelly did not
yet know who would be cleaning the remainder of the spill. Notified Kelly that I will
leave to the spill shortly. Kelly agreed.
Met with Kelly on-site and observed dark staining on the north-east corner of the
concrete slab beneath the emergency backup generator and the rock around the
base of the concrete slab. No storm drains appeared to be impacted. Per Kelly,
the rock is 18 inches in depth and soil is beneath the rock. Evidence of kitty litter
was observed on the concrete slab. Kelly could not determine where Manfield took
the used absorbent pads and kitty litter at the time of inspection. Clean-up of the
impacted rock and possibly soil has not begun and needs to be completed. Took
photos. Notified Kelly that I would be emailing her a Notice To Abate to complete
the clean-up and notify me when the clean-up will be completed so that EHD may
verify the clean-up is complete. Kelly agreed. Left site.
Arrived back at EHD and generated the Notice To Abate. Emailed the Notice To
Abate to Kelly (kdurrer@medline.com).
5105. rpt Page 1 of 4
