21 October 2020
Project No. 14-3002
collection, the acetate sleeve was cut open to expose the entire soil core to classify the
soil and inspect the core for waste. Selected soil and waste samples were collected by
hand-packing the material into precleaned and certified, 4-oz, Teflon-lined closure, wide-
mouth glass sample jars (sample jars). Additionally, the Regional Board collected one
duplicate/split soil sample from boring B46 at 15 feet bsg. Sample jars were labeled with
soil boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials and then placed in a container
with sufficient ice. Soil samples collected from borings B69 through B77 were not
preserved for analysis. The borings were advanced to define the limits of waste
encountered along the eastern property boundary.

Soil sample duplicates were extruded into plastic bags and field-screened for the
presence of organic vapors using an organic vapor meter (OVM), equipped with a photo-
ionization detector (PID). Additionally, the soil was visually classified in accordance with
the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). PID readings and soil classifications were
recorded on boring logs, provided in Appendix C.

3.2. GRAB GROUNDWATER SAMPLE COLLECTION

Grab groundwater samples were collected from borings B46, B48, B65, B67 and B79.
The Regional Board collected duplicate groundwater samples from borings B65, B67 and
B78/79. Groundwater samples were collected between 15 and 20 feet bsg in borings B46,
B48, B65, and B67 and between 10 and 15 feet bsg in B79. Groundwater samples were
collected utilizing a five-foot long, pre-cleaned, one-inch diameter, 0.020-slotted
temporary well screen inserted into the borings. Each groundwater sample was extracted
using a peristaltic pump and disposable ¼-inch Teflon tubing through the temporary well
screen.

Sufficient sample was collected to fill two 1-liter amber glass containers without
preservative and one 1-liter high-density polyethylene (HDPE) container without
preservative. Groundwater sample containers were labeled with soil boring designation,
date, time and samplers initials and then placed in a container with sufficient ice.

3.3 LABORATORY ANALYSIS

Soil, waste and groundwater samples were transported under chain-of-custody to
McCampbell Analytical, Inc. (MAI), Ceres Analytical Laboratory, Inc (Ceres), and Caltest
Analytical Laboratory (Regional Board samples), both California Environmental
Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP)-certified laboratories. Selected soil, waste and
groundwater samples were analyzed for the following selected constituents:

 Percent (%) moisture in accordance with ASTM D2216-05 (solid samples only).
 PCBs and Aroclor 1268 (dry weight) in accordance with EPA Method 8082A.
