4.6-1g: Conduct Preconstruction Surveys
for Nesting Migratory Birds and Raptors.
The Project Area supports suitable nesting
habitat for a variety of special -status birds and
birds protected under the MBTA. To minimize
impacts to protected bird and active nests
during construction, the following measures
Action:
Conduct
preconstruction
bird surveys.
Timing:
Within 14 days
Project Biologist
San Joaquin County
SJCOG
Initials
Initials
are required:
prior to the start of
• Conduct a pre -construction nesting
construction during
raptor and bird survey of all suitable
nesting season.
Date
Date
habitat on the Project site within 14
days of the commencement ground
disturbance (e.g., tree/vegetation
removal, mass grading) during the
nesting season (February 1—
August 31). Where accessible,
surveys shall also be conducted
within 100 feet of the Project site.
• If active nests are found, a no -
disturbance buffer around the nest
shall be established. Per the
SJMSCP, a 100 -foot buffer shall be
established and maintained during
the nesting season for white-tailed
kite, Cooper's hawk, loggerhead
shrike, yellow -billed magpie, and
other birds protected under the
M BTA.
• The buffer shall be maintained until
the fledglings are capable of flight
and become independent of the
nest, to be determined by a qualified
biologist. Once the young are
independent of the nest, no further
measures are necessary.
In addition to the above, the following
SJMSCP Incidental Take Minimization
Measure shall be implemented should a known
Swainson's hawk nest tree (i.e., trees that
Section 1.0 Introduction 11 August 2022
