MOUNTAIN HOUSE NEIGHBORHOOD' 'PROJECT INITIAL STUDY
O. CULTURAL RESOURCES
The Final EIR for the Master Plan and Specific Plan 1 required additional site specific surveys of the Old
River industrial area and Mountain House Creek based on findings from earlier, more preliminary surveys.
The results of these surveys in 1997 confirmed that there were no significant prehistoric or historic
resources within the boundaries of Specific Plan I. This project would be entirely within the boundaries of
Specific Plan 1. New water and wastewater lines would be constructed in the vicinity of Mountain House
Creek and originally were thought to require monitoring by an archaeologist during construction of such
lines(as described in Finding L.1 for the Findings on the 1994 EIR [page 33]). This monitoring was
recommended because of the possibility that a buried site, Ca-Sjo-136,may be located in the vicinity of
the creek. However, further analysis concluded that the location of the buried site may have been incorrect
and that the standard mitigation measure regarding findings, as described below, during construction
would be adequate(Peak and Associates, Inc., 1997).
Environmental Checklist
Potentially
Significant
Potentially Unless Less Than
Significant Mitigation Significant No
impact Incurpurateu impact impact
CULTURAL RESOURCES. Would the project:
a) Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of a
historical resource as defined in § 15064.5?
b) Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of an
archaeological resource pursuant to§ 15064.5?
c) Directly or indirectly destroy a unique paleontological resource or
site or unique geologic feature?
d) Disturb any human remains, including those interred outside of
formal cemeteries?
Environmental Checklist Explanations
a) Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of a historical resource as defined in § 15064.5?
No historical resource as defined in Section 15064.5 would be significantly impacted by the project.
Cultural Resources Studies were completed for the project site in 1997.
b) Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of an archaeological resource pursuant to§ 15064.5?
No known archaeological resources would be impacted at the project site. However, unknown
archaeological resources could be impacted during construction. Given the requirements of the County's
Development Title, this potential impact would be less than significant.
CUOMMMMAL snmY\RNAL[NrnALSRIDY-PART2.DOC(7120100) 116 V.O.CULTURAL RESOURCES
