§ 3.0 IDENTIFICATION OF ALL PAST AND CURRENT SOURCES OF
CONTAMINATION
§ 3.1 Discussion of the methods used to research and investigate the potential or known above-
ground and/or below ground sources of contamination at the site include the following:
The first informational gathering source was direct observation and photographs of the
entire property, with observations referenced in the Conclusion Section of this report.
Since there is no cropland nearby, nitrogen fertilization is extremely unlikely to have
contributed nitrogen to the underlying aquifer(s). However, historical, relatively high
density septic systems and contemporary lawn fertilization with nitrogen has been shown
to contribute nitrogen to groundwater.
Although there is currently a small chicken coop onsite, no future agricultural activities
will occur on the property that may contribute potential environmental concerns. Activity
on nearby properties is inconclusive, particularly to the northwest where a warehouse type
structure is located. The property has not been under conventional agricultural cultivation
for several decades; therefore, no pesticides and/or fertilizers have been commercially
applied.
The second source of environmental information was the referenced documents from
Environmental Record Search (ERS). These documents reveal environmental information
obtained directly from listed public sources. The data indicates no environmental threat to
the subject property as indicated on Page 1 and Page 13, under "Potential Areas of
Concern/Contamination Summary." There is a no radon potential exceeding the USEPA
maximum "acceptable" level of radon at 4 pCi/L.
The third informational source is the GeoTracker Site List from the State Water Resources
Control Board for underground storage tanks (USTs), leaking underground fuel tanks
(LUFTs), pipeline spills, and other contaminated sites. The Site List reveals two
contaminated sites with a Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST). Due to the
distances involved, these two sites cannot impact the subject property.
§ 3.2 Description of all past on-site potential and/or known above and/or below ground sources
of contamination identified on the property include: 1.) There is no record of there being
an above ground or underground permitted fuel storage tank(s) (ASTs/USTs) on the subject
property. 2.) Surrounding electrical transformers near the property exhibited no oil leakage
observed from the transformers.
The predominate wind direction through the region is east-southeast. A "Mapped Air
Permit with Potential Dispersion," as illustrated on Page 27 of the ERS document does not
affect the property.
Page -4-
Chesney Consulting
