Rodney Schatz Farms
16100 N. Alpine Rd.
Lodi, Calif. 95240
MAR 1 8 7998
S J Development Dept Community Deveiopme^t Dept.
Development Services Division
1810 E. Hazelton Ave.
Stockton, Calif. 95205
Attention: Tom Gau
I object to the proposed residential development of parcel 051-290-13.
I own and farm 105 acres of new cabernet vineyard to the west of the
subject property. I developed this vineyard in 1997. Prior to the vineyard
my land was a mature walnut orchard.
The area within which the subject parcel is located has always been
agricultural. To the north of this parcel is a walnut orchard and to the
east are grape vineyards.
Allowing a housing development to enroach into this agricultural area
will create inevitable complaints. The residents will not be used to
adjacent agricultural practices of tractor noise, dust, spraying, sulfurs,
work crews and harvesting operations. Since I work my fields both day
and night, especially during harvest season, the end result will be
continual complaints to me and also county agencies. Historically this is
what has happened when residential development starts to surround
farming and agricultural property.
The existence of my vineyard as well as the walnut orchard will be an
attraction to children in the residential development because they will be
prime play areas. This will increase my potential liability and will hinder
my farming operation. Putting a fence up to protect me from liability
