Criterion for Declaring a Leak
3 . This method
_uses a preset threshold
_ measures and reports the output quantity and compares it to a predetermined threshold to
determine whether the pipeline is leaking.
X Other _The system utilizes pressure decay over time after pump shutdown . Two methods of
operation are available, test only after pump shutdown, or test after pump shutdown or hourlyif f no
activity. Three methods of baseline calibration are provided, MANUAL, CALCULATED and AUTO
CAPTURE (TMS4000 series only) . MANUAL and AUTO CAPTURE require a 3gph leak generating
device, where time is entered manually (MANUAL), or measured and automatically captured (AUTO
CAPTURE) by the system . The CALCULATED method requires the manual entry of three parameters ,
Line Volume, Charge Pressure and Bulk Modulus . Pump shutdown on leak detect is programmable, but
not required .
4 . This method
X uses a single test
_ uses a multiple-test sequence consisting of tests (specify number of tests required)
separated by hours (specify the time interval between tests) to determine whether the
pipeline is leaking.
5 . This method declares a leak if the output of the measurement method exceeds a threshold of
1 . 8 gallon per hour (specify flow rate in gal/hr) in 1 out of 1 tests (specify, for example, 1 out of
2 , 2 out of 3) . Please give additional details , if necessary, in the spaceprovided .
Evaluation Approach
6 . A total of 23 tests were conducted on non-leakingtank(s) between 11 / 12/2020 (date) and
12/4/2020 (date) . A description of the pipeline configuration used in the evaluation is given in
Attachment 3 .
T The pipeline used in the evaluation was between 1 . 5 and 4 in. in diameter, 2533ft long and constructed
of rigid(FRP), semi-rigid and flex (fiberglass, steel , or other) .
8 . A mechanical line leak detector
was
X was not present in the pipeline system .
9 . The evaluation was conducted on 1 (how many) pipeline systems ranging in diameter from
1 . 5 in. to 4 in. , ranging in length from 2533 ft to 2533 ft, and
constructed of rigid(FRP), semi -rigid and flex (specify materials) .
10 . Please specify how much time elapsed between the delivery of product and the start of the data collection :
XOto6his
6 to 12 his
12 to 24
his >24 hr
Data Used to Make Performance Estimates
Pipeline Release Detection System Page 3
