Pneumercator Non - Discriminating
Liquid Float-Switch Sensors
SECTION 3 . EVALUATION PROCEDURES
Test Apparatus
The evaluation of this system was designed to determine if the liquid float-switch
sensors operate as described by the vendor . This is much the same as the testing
procedures specified for Liquid - Phase Out-of-Tank Product Detectors . The successful
implementation of such liquid float-switch sensors requires that they be installed
properly under conditions that will allow product to reach the liquid float-switch sensor.
Three liquids for which these liquid float-switch sensors were designed were used in the
evaluation . These are shown in Table 1 .
Table 1 . Products Used for Testing Liquid Level Sensors
1 . Water
2 . Unleaded Gasoline
3 . #2 Diesel Fuel
* Motor fuels were obtained from commercial suppliers .
Threshold Determination
The threshold was measured by mounting the liquid float-switch sensor in a
cylindrical container and adding product until the alarm was activated .
The liquid float-switch sensor was mounted in a small cylindrical container with
the end of the liquid float-switch sensor at the bottom of the cylinder. Product was then
added from a burette until the alarm was activated . The product level was calculated
from the ratio of inches per ml after correcting for the displacement of fluid by the liquid
float-switch sensor .
