Pneumercator Non - Discriminating
Liquid Float-Switch Sensors
SECTION 5 . TEST RESULTS
The data and results for the liquid float-switch sensors are shown in Tables 2 thru 5 .
Probability of Detection and Probability of False Alarm
Since there were no missed detections and no false alarms , the PD was
determined to be 100 % for all of the Pneumercator liquid float-switch sensors tested .
There were no false alarms observed when the liquid float-switch sensor was located in
the test cell without product present . The PFA was accordingly determined to be 0 % .
Threshold
The threshold test results for the three liquids that were tested has been provided
in Tables 2 , 3 , 4 , and 5 . When the threshold for the liquid being tested was reached , the
alarm was activated .
Specificity
The specificity results are based on the same information contained in Tables 2 ,
31 4 , and 5 . These results indicate that the liquid float-switch sensors will respond to any
liquid once the threshold depth for that liquid is reached . This is consistent with the
design of the Pneumercator switches .
Detection and Fall Times
The time to alarm for the liquid float-switch sensor was less than one second
after the liquid level became greater than the threshold level for the switch for all wired
systems , and within 65 seconds for wireless systems . Resetting the liquid float-switch
sensor simply required that the product level be lowered below the threshold level for
the switch .
Time to Alarm
The time for a given liquid float-switch sensor to alarm will depend upon the size
and geometry of the tank or sump in which it is installed and the rate of leakage into the
interstitial space . The time to alarm can be calculated by determining the volume
necessary to reach the threshold of the liquid float-switch sensor and dividing by the
leak rate .
Discussion
The Pneumercator systems performed with no missed detections or false alarms
for all of the liquid float-switch sensors tested in this evaluation . A minimum of 18 tests
(three liquids , six replicates each ) were conducted for each liquid float-switch sensor
Page 5 of 8
